“Hey! my name is Jessica Kreskay. I am a member of the Australian Air Force Cadets and a Student Ambassador for the One Giant Leap Australia Foundation. Now that I have graduated from school I wish to pursue a career either in the Space Industry or the Defence Force but relating back to Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM). I am the team leader of the Gadget Girlz. Our first opportunity was the KIBO Robot Programming Challenge. I encouraged other girls to join my team, later finding out we all had little to no knowledge in programming, coding or robotics. In the beginning, the girls started to stress and contacted me about their concerns that we wouldn’t win or that we were not good enough. I replied back, “It will make us stronger as a team and our participation shows other people that you can always achieve your goals.” Our aim as an all-girls team is to try our best and motivate other young women to reach their own goals and full potential.”

Ella
Ella

I’m Ella. My passion for STEM started after going to robotic lunch classes in school where we would build robots from cardboard and code them to do small actions. These classes encouraged my passion for STEM which Influenced how I want to make a difference and encourage others to try STEM and see how they feel about it so they can create a future pathway for themselves. I’m in Gadget Girlz to build my knowledge and to with my team mates to learn and grow our understanding of technology, robotics, coding and teamwork altogether. Having this experience can have an impact on my future and if I want to proceed in the direction I’m currently in.

Shalin
Shalin

Hi, my name is Shalin! I have a passion for science (especially Astronomy!). Being a part of Gadget Girlz is so amazing as it challenges me and brings out the best in me while working alongside my good friends :). After attending Space camp, I learnt the true meaning of teamwork and as a team Gadget Girlz was formed and our first project was the Kibo Challenge which was extremely successful. I strongly believe that we need more women in STEM and I’m more than happy to be a part of a team which strives to creates a platform for girls everywhere. This is just the beginning for us and I can’t wait for all the amazing things and amazing people we meet along the way. So, for any girls out there with even the slightest bit of interest in anything STEM, seek out and grab any opportunity you get!

Lucy

Hello, I’m Lucy and I am very interested in science. I love learning about space and anything related to science. I am always open to learning new things. I also love to spend time with my family camping and at the beach and playing with my dogs. I went to Space Camp in 2018 and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. I really enjoy talking to new people and I like to make new friends. At the start of this year I watched the Falcon 9 launch for its final test at the Kennedy Space Centre, where they destroyed the rocket. It was amazing. I really wanted to join The Gadget Girlz because i have an interest in coding, electronics and how things work. I feel it is important for girls to get opportunities to participate in STEM based activities in a relaxed environment.

Jascenta
Jascenta

My name is Jascenta. I am currently a university student studying psychology. My career goal is to become a police officer. After I graduated from Moorefield Girls High School I trekked the Kokoda Track. I have been in the Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) for 6 years and presently I am an AAFC staff member. I decided to join the Gadget Girls to challenge myself further and meet girls with similar interests. I have no prior knowledge in technology but a challenge is not meant to be easy. I think I am just an average person, I went to a public school, grew up in a middle class family and got average grades. I believe anyone can achieve anything they put their mind to, as long as they are determined. “Never give up.”

Nicola
Nicola

Hey, I am Nicola and I am from a small town in northern New South Wales. I decided to be part of Gadget Girlz to show other girls that you can do things in the technology and space industry. I want to show it is not just for boys and that average girls, like myself, can be a part of this industry. I got the opportunity to travel to America last year and attend Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, with the help of the One Giant Leap Australia Foundation. A month later returning from my trip, I was invited to be a student ambassador for the One Giant Leap Australia Foundation. I absolutely love photography, I am constantly taking photos of people and but I’m always on the one side of the camera. In my spare time you can find me flying my drone, hanging out with my close friends and family. I also do physical culture (Physie), which is a mixture of all dance types. I have done Physie since I was 3. I also love cooking, I try to cook and bake but let’s just say I’m not the best and it doesn’t always end well. BUT I try and that is the most important thing. Give it a go!
